Co-curricular programs
At Stanford Merthyr Infants School, we believe in providing a well-rounded education that goes beyond the classroom. Our co-curricular activities offer students a variety of opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and contribute to the school community.
Garden Kitchen Program
Our Garden Kitchen Program runs within and alongside our academic learning timetable. Each class with their teacher participates in weekly gardening activities which incorporate a variety of STEM learning activities and opportunities. These weekly lessons are led by our resident Farmer “Jesse” ( trained science/geography teacher and local farmer).
Each class also participates in regular cooking lessons (fortnightly) with Farmers Carly (Dietician and Nutritionist) and Nat (Early Childhood Trained Teacher). Utilising the fresh produce from our school garden in fresh and healthy recipes.
Tech Club
Across the year we run Tech Club once a week during lunch play break. Tech club provides students opportunities to engage with Beebots, Spheros and iPads. It allows them to experiment with coding at a beginner level and develop a love of STEM based technology.
Tech Club is open to any student who would like to participate.
Bike Day
Each year our whole school heads over to Peace Park at Weston with their bikes or scooters where we put into place all our Road and Bike Safety learning from the classroom PDHPE Syllabus lessons. Students rotate through a number of bike safety activities including a trail bike ride led by the school principal, culminating in students achieving their Bike License at the end of the day. Parents and families also come along for a fun day and picnic lunch.
Baker Baker
Unique to our school!
Students from each class are rostered to be the Baker at recess. This requires the child to bring some cakes or biscuits to sell which can be either homemade or purchased.
All students are encouraged to bring 10c or 20c to school to purchase a treat from the bakers. Special Baker outfits are provided by the school. The bakers practice financial literacy skills through selling and giving change. The total of their sales is calculated with teachers and sent home with them at the end of the day.
