Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
Garden/Kitchen program
SMIS's Kitchen Garden Program provides students with the opportunity to experience hands on farming, building resilience, creative arts to enhance wellbeing, Connection to Country and a love of growing, cooking and eating nutritious food.
Farmers Jesse and Carly provide our students with the ideals of eating, farming and living sustainably.
Reading in the Streets-Book Week Parade
Celebrate Book Week with us!
Our “Reading in the Streets” event features students parading in their colourful book week costumes along the main street of Kurri Kurri.
Along the way, local businesses join the fun by reading stories to our students and some even joining into the spirit of book week by dressing up also, inspiring a love of reading.
The festivities continue back at school with our Book Parade followed by a family picnic. Join us for a day of community, creativity, and celebration of the joy of reading!
Baker Baker
Throughout the year students from each class are rostered to be a Baker at recess.
This requires the child to bring some cakes or biscuits to sell which can be either homemade or purchased. All students are encouraged to bring 10c or 20c to school to purchase a treat from the Bakers. Special Baker outfits are provided by the school. The Bakers practice financial literacy skills through selling and giving change. The total of their sales is calculated with teachers and sent home with them at the end of the day.
Colour Run
🌈 Join Us for the Colour Run Fundraiser! 🌈
Get ready to dash, splash, and sparkle at our annual Colour Run! This exciting event is not just a fun way to get active, but it's also our biggest fundraiser of the year! Students will have the chance to gain sponsorship from family and friends, all while running through a vibrant explosion of colours.
Mark your calendars and lace up your running shoes for a day filled with laughter, teamwork, and community spirit! Let’s come together to support our school and make this event a memorable one. Don’t miss out on the fun – let’s paint the town with our enthusiasm!
Bike Day
🚴♂️ Annual Bike Day Event: Safe, Fun, and Educational!
Our Annual Bike Day is an exciting, hands-on road safety education event where students bring their bikes or scooters and take part in a variety of engaging activities designed to boost their road awareness and riding skills.
Throughout the day, students rotate through interactive stations covering essential road safety topics, including a fun trail ride led by our school principal!
By participating, students not only have fun but also earn their very own Bike License, marking their achievement in safe riding practices.
It’s a fantastic way to promote confidence, responsibility, and safety on the roads.
We look forward to seeing all our students gear up and ride smart!
"Stanford Merthyr Infants School has provided my children with an amazing start to their education. Their math skills are encouraged with the Baker Baker program, developing the basics of currency and transaction. The Garden to Kitchen program has encouraged my picky eater to always try something different. I couldn't ask for friendlier staff. All Round the best public school in the area!" a parent of Stanford Merthyr Infants School
